Warm welcome in a Samburu Village |
mikel.hendriks posted a photo:
The Samburu believe that by the age of 15 or 16, a girl should have enough beads to support her chin. This is considered a sign of having reached marriageable age.
The Samburu are traditionally far ranging nomads. The Samburu move (every 5-8 weeks) with their herds of cattle, sheep and goats in search of pasture and water.
As with many traditional tribes, the Samburu are under pressure from their government to settle into permanent villages. They have been extremely reluctant to do so since obviously permanent settlement would disrupt their entire way of life.
This photo shows the warm welcome we received and it’s obvious that my girlfriend hasn’t reached the marriageable age yet
